What Are Altar Shoulder Capes?
Altar shoulder capes (also called pellegrinas) are liturgical vestments worn over the surplice by altar servers. They are finished with trimming in all liturgical colors — white, green, red, purple, light blue, gold — so they can match every feast and season in the church year.
Purpose
Shoulder capes add a touch of solemnity and color to the altar server's vestments. They are particularly popular in traditional parishes and during solemn liturgical celebrations.
Colors Available
- White — Christmas, Easter, feasts of the Lord
- Red — Pentecost, feasts of martyrs
- Green — Ordinary Time
- Violet — Advent, Lent
- Gold — solemn feasts
- Light blue — Marian feasts
Materials
Our shoulder capes are made from fine liturgical fabrics with matching trim and comfortable fit. They are designed to be worn over the standard surplice.
