The date and events surrounding the creation of the Icon of Our Lady of Calvary are unknown. According to legend, on May 3, 1641, Stanislaw Paszkowski noticed bloody tears flowing from the eyes of the Blessed Virgin Mary during prayer. When the bishop of Krakow was informed of the incident, the owner was asked to donate the painting to the church in Marcypora. While traveling, Stanislaw Paszkowski felt the presence of a force that directed him in the opposite direction of where he was going. He reached the Calvary Sanctuary. He realized it was God's will that the image of the Mother of God be placed in this very Sanctuary.
