What Is a Monstrance Veil?
A monstrance veil (also called a humeral veil when used with the monstrance) is a liturgical vestment worn by the priest or deacon when exposing or reposing the Blessed Sacrament, and during Benediction and processions.
Use in Liturgy
The veil is draped over the shoulders and arms, and the priest uses the covered hands to hold the monstrance. This practice signifies that it is not the person but the office of the priest that handles the Blessed Sacrament.
Colors and Materials
Monstrance veils are typically white or gold, matching the liturgical color for Eucharistic celebrations. They are made from fine silk or brocade with embroidered crosses or Eucharistic symbols.
Size and Construction
Our veils are generously sized (approximately 100cm x 30cm) to provide full coverage when holding the monstrance. They feature stiffened edges for a dignified drape and are finished with fringe or decorative borders.
