What Is a Lavabo Towel?
A lavabo towel (also called a finger towel or lavabo cloth) is a small linen towel used by the priest during the lavabo rite at Mass — the ritual washing of hands that takes place after the Offertory and before the Eucharistic Prayer.
Liturgical Significance
The lavabo rite symbolizes the priest's desire for inner purity before approaching the most sacred moment of the Mass. The towel is held by a server while the priest washes his fingers with water.
Materials and Design
Our lavabo towels are made from fine linen or cotton, typically white, with embroidered crosses or liturgical symbols. They are sized for practical use and easy care.
Care
Lavabo towels should be washed in cold water with mild detergent and ironed while damp for best results. Store in a clean, dry place.
