Chalice Linen Sets

We have sets of chalice linen sets manually embroidered or trimmed with lace. In our online store you can buy both whole sets of chalice  altar mass (embroidered or lace) and each of the elements separately: a finger, a purifier, a corporal and a towel

What Are Chalice Linen Sets?

A chalice linen set is a collection of liturgical linens used together at Mass to cover and purify the chalice. A typical set includes three essential pieces: the corporal, the purificator, and the pall. These linens are essential for the proper celebration of Mass and serve both practical and symbolic purposes.

The corporal is the square linen placed on the altar to catch any particles of the consecrated host. The purificator is the small cloth used to wipe the chalice after the Precious Blood is consumed. The pall is the stiff square placed over the chalice to protect it from dust and insects. Together, these three pieces form the chalice linen set.

Every priest needs quality chalice linens. They are used at every Mass and should be chosen for absorbency, durability, and appropriate appearance.

What Types of Chalice Linen Sets Are Available?

Chalice linen sets come in several options:

Plain linen sets — simple, unadorned linens made of high-quality linen. These are the most traditional and appropriate for daily Mass. Plain linen sets are practical and easy to care for.

Embroidered sets — feature decorative embroidery, often with crosses, wheat, grapes, or other Eucharistic symbols. These are popular for Sunday Mass and solemnities. Embroidered sets add beauty to the liturgy.

Lace-trimmed sets — have delicate lace edging for a more ornate appearance. These are often chosen for special occasions and cathedral use.

How Do I Choose the Right Chalice Linen Set?

  • Check the fabric quality. Good linen is absorbent, durable, and gets softer with washing. Avoid synthetic blends for the purificator — they do not absorb as well.
  • Consider the size. The corporal should be large enough to hold the chalice and paten. Standard size is about 18-20 inches square.
  • Think about the occasion. Plain sets work for daily Mass. Embroidered or lace sets are better for Sundays and solemnities.
  • Look for quality stitching. Embroidery and lace should be securely attached to withstand repeated washing.

How Do You Care for Chalice Linens?

Chalice linens should be washed separately from other laundry. Use mild soap and warm water. Avoid bleach — it weakens the fibers over time. Hang to dry or tumble dry on low. Iron while slightly damp for best results. Store linens flat or rolled — do not fold them sharply.
