The story of the creation of the Miraculous Image of Our Lady of the Snows mentions apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary appearing to one of the patricians - John. Our Lady assured John that he would soon become a father, and he was to fund a temple in return. The sign of the temple's location is supposed to be snow. Then, in the hot summer of 352, snow fell on the Roman hill called Esquilin. This miraculous image is revered for protecting from disasters and dangers.
